Free parcel data in Illinois
Illinois has no single free statewide parcel layer we could verify, but many counties publish their own. Basesheet currently uses 7 Illinois county services: Cook, DuPage, Kane, Lake, McHenry, Sangamon, St. Clair.

MapServer layer backing the Cook County Viewer. PIN14 is the 14-digit PIN with no separators ('17094470040000'); PIN14_dash has dashes ('17-09-447-004-0000'); PARID equals PIN14; PIN10 is the first 10 digits (shared by condo units). street_address is situs street ('121 N LA SALLE ST'); CITYNAME is the situs city. No owner, deed, plat or legal fields on this layer. Condo buildings stack multiple PIN14 records on one footprint.

FeatureServer (Query,Extract). PIN is a 10-digit string with no dashes, e.g. '0518211001' (printed as 05-18-211-001). PROPADDRL1 is the situs street ('117 N COUNTY FARM RD'); PROPCITY is situs city but space-padded ('WHEATON '), so trim. BILLNAME is the tax-bill name (owner of record), space-padded. Legal description is split across LEGALDES1..LEGALDES9 (23-char lines); legal_field holds only the first line, concatenate all nine for the full text. No deed or plat book fields.

MapServer layer. PIN is a 10-digit string with no dashes, e.g. '1210252027' (printed 12-10-252-027). SiteAddress is situs street ('719 BATAVIA AVE'), SiteCity the situs city. TaxName is the taxpayer name (may have trailing space). LegalDesc is a short legal description that often cites the recorded document (e.g. 'DOC 2005K136998'). DocNumber/DocDate are the latest recorded document, not book/page. The layer name carries a year (Parcels_v2025); if the service is re-pointed to a new year the URL stays the same.

MapServer layer 12 'Tax Parcel Information' (native SR 3857, reprojects fine). PIN is a 10-digit string with no dashes, e.g. '0821410004' (printed 08-21-410-004). situs_addr_line_1 is situs street ('18 N COUNTY ST'), situs_addr_city is the situs city. taxpayer_name is the tax-bill name. Legal is split across legdesc1..legdesc3; legal_field holds only the first part. doc_num1 is the latest sale document number, not a book/page reference. Layer 11 'Tax Parcel Lines' in the same service is geometry with fewer attributes. Do not confuse with Lake County, Indiana or other Lake counties.

Hosted FeatureServer (Query only). ParcelNumber is DASHED, e.g. '08-32-201-004'; strip/insert dashes to match 10-digit user input. SiteAddress is situs street ('2200 N SEMINARY AVE'), SiteCity the situs city. Owner is space-padded and in 'LAST FIRST' / 'NAME OF' order ('MCHENRY CO OF'). LegalDescription often cites the recorded document (e.g. 'DOC 1956R0309438'). The county's own server mchenrycountygis.org (parcelsfull/MapServer) sits behind a Cloudflare bot check, so use this hosted layer.

MapServer layer 3 'Parcels' with a joined table, so every field name is fully qualified (use them exactly, e.g. SOA.SANGIS.Parcel_Poly.PIN). PIN is 11 digits with no separators, e.g. '14340132012' (printed 14-34.0-132-012). Situs is split: PropHouseNo + PropDir + PropStreet (no combined field), PropCity is situs city. Owner1/Legal1 come from the joined assessment table, whose max CurrTxYr is 2022, so owner names may be stale. Legal continues in Legal2..Legal4. A geometry-only copy is at .../TyleratENTParcels/MapServer/0 (field PIN).

MapServer layer 29 'Parcels' behind the county Parcel Map Viewer. parcel_number is 11 digits with no separators ('08210444020'); parcelid is the printed form with dashes and a decimal ('08-21.0-444-020'). siteadr1 is situs street ('10 PUBLIC SQ'), sitecity situs city. Legal is split across legal1..legal4 (legal1 often cites book-page refs like '2273-244'). document_number1 is the latest recorded document; no separate deed or plat book/page fields. Do not confuse with St. Clair County, Michigan (maps.stclaircounty.org), which is a different county.
How to use it
- QGIS: Layer > Data Source Manager > ArcGIS REST Server, add a connection with the service URL (the endpoint above without the
final
/0), then add the layer. Filter to your area before exporting. - ArcGIS Pro: Add Data > Data From Path, paste the endpoint.
- Direct query: append
/query?geometry=LON,LAT&geometryType=esriGeometryPoint&inSR=4326&spatialRel=esriSpatialRelIntersects&outFields=*&f=geojsonto get the parcel at a point. - CAD: see getting a parcel into AutoCAD or Civil 3D.
Assessor parcel lines are for taxation and are often 5 to 50 ft off the legal boundary. Why.
